Samsung has released the April 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S10 Lite in the US. The new security update is now also rolling out to the US Galaxy S20 units widely, including the Galaxy S20 FE.

The Galaxy S10 Lite started receiving the April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in Europe last week. The rollout has now reached the US, with the unlocked units picking up the update first. Rolling out with firmware version G770U1UES6EVD3, last month’s SMR is already available on most wireless networks in the country. The remaining few should also join the party in the coming days. The April security update should also hit the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S10 Lite in the US soon.

Along with the affordable Galaxy flagship from 2020, Samsung is also now widely rolling out the April SMR to the Galaxy S20 phones in the US. The rollout for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra began last week for the carrier-locked variants on T-Mobile’s network. It is now available on other carrier-locked variants as well as unlocked units. Additionally, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G is also now receiving the April security update in the US.

The April SMR brings fixes for over 80 vulnerabilities. The majority of those were discovered in Google’s version of Android. One of those was the Dirty Pipe vulnerability that affected the Galaxy S22 phones. It allowed a remote attacker to take full control of your device by gaining system-level access with root privileges. Some Samsung-specific vulnerabilities patched with the April SMR also allowed remote code execution.

If you’re using the Galaxy S10 Lite or a Galaxy S20 series phone in the US, the April security update is on your way soon if you haven’t already received it. You will get a notification about the OTA (over the air) rollout. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app, under the Software update menu.

May security update is already rolling out

Some devices may still be getting the April SMR but Samsung has already begun rolling out the May security update to its devices. The Galaxy S22 series picked up the latest SMR last week. The Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Note 20, and Galaxy S20 have also received the new update since. You can expect more Galaxy smartphones and tablets to join the party in the coming weeks. We will keep you posted.
