The Galaxy A71 5G is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the Android 12 update in the US. The premium mid-range smartphone from 2020 is picking up the big Android update on carrier-locked units. As of this writing, the update is available on US Cellular’s network, SamMobile has confirmed. Other wireless networks should also join the party soon.
The latest update for the Galaxy A71 5G in the US is rolling out with firmware version A716USQU6EVD3. It bundles the April 2022 Android security patch. Last month’s SMR contains fixes for over 80 vulnerabilities from Google and Samsung. However, we are more interested in the plethora of goodies that Android 12 brings.
The Galaxy A71 5G is likely getting Samsung’s One UI 4.1 with the Android 12 update in the US. While the Korean brand initially seeded the new Android version with One UI 4.0, it has been bundling One UI 4.1 lately. The international versions of the phone also got the latest iteration of the company’s custom Android software.
As for new features, this update brings a lot of them. Samsung has introduced a new Color Palette feature that lets you extract colors from your wallpaper and apply them to the system-wide UI elements. This makes for a consistent feel across the device. Android 12’s new privacy dashboard and display indicators for camera and microphone access are part of the package too.
Improved stock apps, some subtle UI changes, Grammarly integration with Samsung keyboard for grammar correction, new personalization options, improved Bixby Routines, and enhanced always-on display (AoD) are the other few changes that Galaxy A71 5G is getting with this update.
Galaxy A71 5G gets the Android 12 update in the US
Samsung launched the Galaxy A71 5G in early 2020. The device came with Android 10 on board and received the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update last year. It started picking up the Android 12 update in international markets a month ago. The new Android version for the phone has now reached the US as well.
If you’re using the Galaxy A71 5G stateside, you will soon get the taste of Android 12. Watch out for a notification about the OTA (over the air) rollout in the coming days. You can also manually check for the update though. Simply head over to the Software update menu in the Settings app on your smartphone and tap on Download and install. If it doesn’t show any pending OTA update, check again in a few days.
