We all know about the sensation that was Wordle, but now there’s a new kid on the block. A new app developed by Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger called Knotwords is set to take that game’s place. Knotwords is a new word puzzle game that adds a new spin to the crossword puzzle category.

Over the past couple of months, Wordle has been turning people on to word puzzles, and there have been a lot of different takes on the same formula. There was a game where you’d guess the name of a song using the Wordle style of play. Heck, people were even able to get Wordle to run on Gameboy consoles. However, its popularity seems to be waning, and other hotshot word puzzles are starting to hop into the spotlight.

The next hotshot word puzzle game is called Knotwords

Knotwords is a game developed by Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger and published by Noodle Cake. Much like wordle, you get a daily puzzle to solve. When you start a level, you’re given a small section of a crossword puzzle; one that would only fit a handful of words.

Certain squares will have a random assortment of letters on the top left corner. When you tap on a square, a 4×4 section of the board will be highlighted. Those random letters will go into that section, and it’s up to you to figure out how those letters should be arranged.

At first, you don’t have any hints to go off of, so you’ll need to place down some letters randomly to get started. The highlighted sections are always 4×4 squares, so you won’t be guessing full words in one go. As you place more letters down, you’ll start to form words. Just like with traditional crossword puzzles, when you start placing letters down, you’ll actually start to piece together other words without even trying to.

This game is free to download for the Google Play Store, the iOS App Store, Mac, and Windows PC today. However, there is a membership that you can join. This membership will grant you an extra puzzle each day, and double the amount of hints you get. It costs $4.99/year, but if you don’t want to bother with recurring payments, you can pay $11.99 once and get it forever.
