Samsung may be planning a massive camera upgrade for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. According to the noted tipster Dohyun Kim, the upcoming foldable will feature a 108-megapixel primary camera. Perhaps another tipster @chunvn888 claims the device will get the same rear camera setup as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It may lack a periscope camera though. The foldable could settle for the 10-megapixel 3X telephoto zoom camera along with the 12-megapixel ultrawide lens.
If these rumors are true, then the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will bring significant improvements in image quality. It’s not like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 produces bad images. But the Galaxy S22 Ultra is in a league of its own in this regard. So equipping the new foldable with these flagship-grade cameras could be an excellent move from Samsung. But we will need more concrete evidence before we can say for sure. The device is still in the early stages of development. There’s a lot of time for the Korean brand to make changes as and when necessary.
Galaxy Z Fold 4 could bring upgrades in other areas too
While camera upgrades will be one of the focal points of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the upcoming foldable will likely bring upgrades in other areas too. We are expecting a more power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor under the hood. Samsung may also improve the S Pen experience on the new foldable with enhanced UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) display technology that is more resistant to scratches. The company is said to be mulling rebranding the new foldable display as “Super UTG”. An under-display fingerprint scanner could still be missing though.
There have been reports of Samsung shipping the Galaxy Z Fold 4 with the S Pen in the box. However, recent reports suggest the device will not feature a built-in silo for that weapon. This is reportedly to make the device slimmer and lighter. But this may require users to buy a protective case that can hold the S Pen.
As said earlier, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is still months away. The new foldable is expected to arrive in the second half of the year. So it’s too early now to confirm these rumors. But it’s more or less confirmed that Samsung is planning big upgrades for the device as it pushes foldables into the mainstream smartphone market. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 will accompany the Galaxy Z Fold 4 later this year. You can expect to hear more about these two devices in the coming months.
