A fun new TV spot for director Jordan Peele’s upcoming thriller, Nope, sees Golden State Warriors shooting guard Steph Curry making a quick exit when the mysterious UFOs arrive to interrupt his practice. Released courtesy of Universal Pictures, the footage does not appear to be from the movie itself, but has reportedly been “inspired by one of the most terrifying moments” in Nope.

Something must be seriously wrong to make Steph Curry not only miss a shot, but also make a quick escape. Of course, this being the latest movie from the maker of Get Out and Us, we still do not really know what that seriously wrong thing is exactly. But it’s probably aliens. Right?

So what could this “terrifying” moment be exactly? While it is unlikely to feature Steph Curry, it will no doubt involve a character perhaps shooting a basketball as shown in the footage. But where Curry manages to get away, the character in Nope will perhaps not be quite so lucky.

Nope asks the heavy question, “What’s a bad miracle?” The movie sees Academy Award winner Jordan Peele, the man who disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us, reimagining the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope. The secretive thriller sees Peele reunite with fellow Academy Award winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Academy Award nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. So, keeping things nice and vague.

Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions.

Like all the best kinds of horror and science fiction movies, Nope will once again see Jordan Peele use the trappings of genre filmmaking to tell a contemporary, social, and political message. Something that Peele has already demonstrated his affinity for in both Get Out and Us.

“The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together,” Jordan Peele previously said of Nope and his original projects. “I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.”

Nope is just the first of several projects due to come from the unique mind of Jordan Peele, with the writer and director having since revealed that he has “four other social thrillers that I want to unveil in the next decade.” Written, directed, and produced by Jordan Peele, Nope is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2022, by Universal Pictures.
