The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is finally here. Having kept fans waiting for even longer than the infamous Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, Marvel Studios gave the long awaited first look at the return of Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, in what is set to be one of the biggest films of the summer. Check out the trailer below.

Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder sees Thor briefly joining the Guardians of the Galaxy similarly to how Thor: Ragnarok buddied him up with Hulk. While there is not much known about the plot of the movie, there are a lot of rumors out there and a host of hints taken from merchandising as to how some of the movie will pan out. We know that Natalie Portman will be returning to the franchise for the first time proper since her appearance in Thor: The Dark World, and this time around she will be taking on the role of The Mighty Thor when she wields a newly forged Mjolnir. In addition to this, other returnees include Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Chris Pratt’s Star Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot along with the arrival of Christian Bale as villain Gorr the God Butcher.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

There has been a lot of attention around the release of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, as it now stands as holding the record for the shortest window between a first trailer being released and the movie premiering. A few weeks ago, director Taiki Waititi joked that the trailer might be ready to be released the day before the movie arrived in cinemas, and many fans had started to question whether that was indeed a joke.

Thor: Love and Thunder Underwent Reshoots Only Last Month

Like many Marvel movies reshoots are par for the course, but with the film arriving in July, Thor: Love and Thunder has seemingly been mirroring the production of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which completed another round of reshoots ahead of its premiere in less than a month’s time. Although these are usually planned in advance, and are done to either correct some minor issues or rework scenes that just don’t hit like they should, with visual effects playing a part in most scenes Marvel Studios like to cut it fine.

Last month, Christian Bale was back on set to filming additional footage for this character of Gorr the God Butcher, who was recently revealed in artwork for the Marvel Legends toy line. While the appearance, which seemed to be deviating from the comic book version, was divisive amongst fans, even the arrival of a trailer is never enough to know what to expect when the final movie arrives. With so many missteps and red herrings to be considered, the first Thor: Love and Thunder footage will now be picked apart scene by scene to draw out every possible plot point and surprise that eagle-eyed fans can find.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8.
