Elon Musk’s Twitter saga continues. Many of you are probably in tune with what’s going on, and the latest news are here. Elon Musk said that Twitter’s algorithm should be open source.

Just in case you’re out of the loop, there’s much going on. First Elon Musk bought 9.2% of Twitter shares, then it rejected being on the Twitter board. He is facing a class action lawsuit because of some paperwork involved in the process, and on top of that, he offered to straight out buy Twitter.

Elon Musk thinks Twitter’s algorithm should be open source

Elon Musk offered $43 billion to buy 100% of Twitter. As Twitter’s board is mulling over this offer, Elon Musk had more to say. During his TED Talk, Elon Musk did say Twitter’s algorithm should be open source, but also much more than that, reports Engadget.

He added that “It’s just really important that people have both the reality and the perception that they’re able to speak freely within the bounds of the law”. He continued by saying “Any changes to people’s tweets — if they’re emphasized or de-emphasized — that action should be made apparent”.

He put an emphasis on free speech

He also added that there should not be much content moderation on the platform. Elon Musk clearly implied that he wants free speech by saying “let the speech exist”. He admitted that he doesn’t have all the answers, though.

All in all, he’d allow free speech on the platform, as long as it’s legal. If it’s not, that’s where moderation and bans come into play. All of that makes sense, of course.

Elon Musk was asked if he had a plan B if Twitter’s board were to decline his offer. He said that he does, but he did not want to share any more information.

A lot of things happened in the last couple of days. Some expect Twitter’s board to accept Musk’s offer, others, not so much. They’re expected to make a decision soon, so stay tuned for that.
