In January this year, WhatsApp was spotted working on new drawing tools that would allow users to better customize their photos before sharing. The Meta-owned messaging service is now testing these additions publicly. The latest beta update for WhatsApp on iOS (version 22.8.0.73) lets users test the new features. These features should soon roll out on WhatsApp for Android as well.
Among the new drawing features that WhatsApp is testing are a couple of pencil tip weights (sizes) and a blur tool. You can already write on top of a photo using a pencil tool before sharing it on WhatsApp. While the app does offer various colors, you get only one standard size for the pencil tip. It is now adding a couple more options, would you want your drawing to be bolder.
WhatsApp also already offers a blur tool on iOS. But currently, it resides in the color bar towards the top of the screen. With the upcoming change, the blur tool will find a new home at the bottom of the screen, alongside the three pencil tips.
As said earlier, this beta testing is currently limited to iOS. But it shouldn’t be long before Android users get the new drawing tools on WhatsApp. A beta rollout could be just around the corner, followed by a stable update. We will keep you posted.
WhatsApp also has a lot more in the pipeline
These drawing tools aren’t the only new feature that WhatsApp is currently working on. It has been developing a polling feature for some time now. This feature will let users create polls in WhatsApp groups. The app will let you add as many as 12 optional answers. It’s unclear though whether you can create multi-answer polls or single-answer only. We will likely find out soon.
WhatsApp is also testing increasing the size limit of files that you can share on the platform from 100MB to 2GB. In the meantime, the app also recently rolled out an update changing media visibility in conversations with disappearing messages turned on.
There’s no timeline yet regarding the public rollout of the new WhatsApp features. Sometimes, the rollout could begin within weeks of beta testing, while it could take longer some other times. But you can always stay on top of the game by updating the app to the latest available version. You click the button below to download the updated app from the Google Play Store.
