WarnerMedia has been hyping up CNN Plus for well over a year at this point, and we finally have a launch date for the service. CNN Plus will go live on May 29, and it will live within the main CNN app. This is very similar to what ESPN does with its ESPN Plus service. It lives within the ESPN app – and now the Hulu app.
The service is going to cost $5.99 per month, however you can still sign up now and get it for $2.99, which is roughly half the price.
CNN Plus is seen as a compliment to the main CNN channel. It’s going to have a lot more content, both live and on-demand, that users will be able to watch on CNN Plus. It has also brought in quite a bit of talent for the CNN Plus launch, including Chris Wallace who left Fox News not too long ago. And now we know why.
What will be available on CNN Plus?
CNN Plus is going to have daily versions of weekly CNN shows, all-new shows and original series and movies available. Those that subscribe to CNN Plus are going to get access to the entire CNN library of content.
While CNN Plus is going to be adding some new faces, it is also relying on popular mainstays at CNN like Anderson Cooper, Brian Stelter, Jake Tapper, Poppy Harlow, and Kate Bolduan. It is also going to be bringing on business professor Scott Galloway and actor Eva Longoria for a limited series about Mexican cuisine.
CNN Plus is entering a very crowded arena with this new streaming service. There’s already a ton of different streaming services on the market. Though news-specific services have been left out so far. However, the amount of people willing to pay for a dedicated streaming service that covers news only, is going to be a pretty small group. Since you can subscribe to something like YouTube TV and get CNN plus almost 80 other channels.
