For years now, there has been talk of Star Wars legend Mark Hamill joining the MCU for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We know Hamill has chatted with director James Gunn about it, but so far there’s been no concrete news on if he’s on board on not. If does end up in it, though, fans would lose their minds. But what would be even more mind-blowing than having Hamill in the movie? Having Hamill in the movie opposite another sci-fi icon – like Star Trek‘s William Shatner!

Shatner spoke with Express to promote his new film, Senior Moment, and was asked whether he’d like a role in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise alongside Hamill, who he’s developed a fun rivalry/friendship with on social media. The Captain Kirk star had the perfect response. “Yeah! I’ve guarded the galaxy many times,” he said.

Though 90-years-old, Shatner has never retired and is even willing to return to the Star Trek universe, if the circumstances were right. In the same interview, the actor told Express: “I would be delighted to be a part of Star Trek if it was something worthy.” Echoing comments he’s made before, Shatner added that he would “absolutely” love to be involved with Quentin Tarantino’s Trek movie if that ever gets off the ground, calling the concept “glorious.”

As for Guardians, James Gunn has packed in a ton of mind-blowing cameos over the first two movies, including Sylvester Stallone and David Hasselhoff, so there’s no reason to believe he’s going to stop with Vol. 3. In fact, he’s going to have to pull out all the stops to top the previous films. And a one-two punch of putting both Mark Hamill and William Shatner in the threequel would definitely be one way to do that.

After a long delay, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally starts shooting this year ahead of its release in May 2023.
