Google is sending out a lot of updates in the month of March. It just released its latest Android 12L feature drop for Pixel phones, and people are seeing some new and welcome changes to the software. With this feature drop, Pixel users are seeing a new splash screen telling them what’s new.
Google has its hands full this month, as it’s sending out several updates to its phones. There’s the latest feature drop, the March security patch, and the final version of Android 12L for the Pixel 6 phones. While it seems like a lot, it’s all worth it because it’s all helping push Android 12 to be more stable.
There’s a new splash screen after the Android 12L feature drop
Eligible Pixel phones have been getting a handful of goodies in the form of software improvements. When Android 12 launched back in October of last year, it had its share of bugs. This only got worse when we got additional issues via subsequent security patches.
Then, came Android 12L which fixed a fair amount of bugs in the software. Pixel 6 owners who had the Android 12L beta didn’t experience that obnoxious Wi-Fi bug on Android 12 proper. It’s like the Android 12L beta was more stable than standard Android 12.
Now, we have the latest Android 12L feature drop, and Pixel owners are noticing a new splash screen that pops up when they turn their phones on. The Pixel Tips app will show a popup saying “Your Pixel got more useful”. Under it, they see two cards representing the two new features that came in the drop.
The first feature is a new battery widget. This widget will give you at-a-glance information on your battery. This is useful if you want to keep an eye on your battery.
The next feature is the custom stickers feature that Google announced recently. When you use the Gboard and type in a phrase, you’ll get sticker suggestions based on the text. If you type something like “Have a good day”, then you get stickers with that same text. You might get some pictures, but they’ll be mostly text-based.
If you want to get this new feature, just remember that you won’t get it if you’re using a Pixel 6 phone (it will come later in the month) or if you’re using a Pixel 3/3 XL. While the Pixel 3 and 3 XL got Android 12, they won’t get Android 12L.
