Google has announced that Google Pay’s billing system is being paused in Russia. The company says that this is happening “due to payment system disruption”. The company said that it’s pausing the feature “in the coming days”.
Google Play’s billing system is getting paused in Russia
What does this mean? Well, it means that users in Russia won’t be able to purchase apps and games. They also won’t be able to make subscription payments or conduct in-app purchases of digital goods using Google Play in Russia.
Do note that users will still be able to download free apps and games from the Google Play Store. So, only payments won’t be available, as it seems like the system got disrupted. Based on what Google said, the company is working on fixing everything.
All of this is happening due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Various sanctions have been issued for Russia following the move, and it seems like some of them managed to disrupt Google Play payments.
Google, Microsoft, Samsung & Apple stopped selling their products in the country
Various companies pulled out of Russia due to the whole affair. Visa and MasterCard, for example. Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and Apple stopped selling their products in the country, and that’s only the tip of an iceberg.
Most recently, PlayStation stopped selling its hardware and software in Russia, following Ubisoft. These are only some examples, a lot more has happened since the invasion started.
It is also worth noting that Google removed calling fees to Ukraine, the same as many other companies.
Google said that you can reach out to the company’s help center if you have any additional questions regarding this. You can also get information about the service there, if you need it.
Let’s hope this war will end soon, as nothing good can come out of it. Until it does, future sanctions will probably be issued by all sides.
