Samsung has released the February 2022 Android security patch to the unlocked Galaxy S20 units in the US. The carrier-locked variants of the 2020 Galaxy flagships have already received last month’s security update stateside.
The latest update for the US-bound unlocked Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra is rolling out with firmware version G98xU1UES2EVB3. The devices likely aren’t picking up anything else apart from an updated SMR (security maintenance release) though. They recently received the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update with tons of new features and other changes.
As for the content of the new SMR, there are plenty of vulnerability fixes here. Samsung last month revealed that the February security patch fixes more than 60 software flaws, with the majority of them coming from Google. Several of those issues were labeled “critical” by the Korean firm, So you’d want to install the new patch as early as you can.
According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the new SMR for the unlocked Galaxy S20 trio in the US is now available on all wireless carriers. So whether you are on AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or any other network for that matter, you should be able to download the latest OTA (over the air) update anytime now if you haven’t already.
As always, you should receive a notification about the OTA rollout once it becomes available for your phone. But you can also manually check for it from the Settings app. Simply scroll down to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an OTA update is available, you will be prompted to download it on the next screen. If there’s no update available, check back again later. Or wait for the notification we mentioned above.
Samsung has started rolling out the March update too
Samsung has already released the March SMR to the Galaxy S22 series. The latest Galaxy flagships picked up the new security patch late in February. Neither Google nor Samsung has detailed the content of this month’s security release yet. We expect it to fix several dozen Android OS vulnerabilities.
The latest security update should also roll out to other Galaxy devices in the coming days and weeks. Samsung has significantly improved its pace with these updates in recent years. Even US-bound units now receive updates much faster than before. We will let you know when the March SMR reaches more Samsung smartphones.
