Xbox cloud gaming has been a huge step forward for how you play games, but one thing has been missing – mouse & keyboard support. However it looks like gamers won’t have to wait for much longer. Hopefully. Windows Central reports that Microsoft’s Xbox platform team is working on bringing mouse & keyboard support to Xbox cloud gaming sometime in the future.
“It’s coming.” Says Microsoft Flight Simulator boss Jorg Neumann. Noting that he can’t give users a timeframe on the arrival because he “doesn’t know the dates of the platform team.” Even without a definitive window though, it’s the fact that support is on the way that matters.
Currently you can only play Xbox cloud games with touch controls (if the game supports them) or a connected controller. The Xbox controller and the Razer Kishi are a couple of good examples of compatible options.
With mouse & keyboard support on the way, more players may be open to trying the service out.
Xbox cloud games may support mouse & keyboard by this Summer
No definitive dates means no definitive dates. And it seems Neumann truly doesn’t know, or he’s simply not willing to say. He does mention though that he “hopes it will arrive by June.” Which means players could see mouse & keyboard support for the cloud by this Summer.
Neumann does also state in response to an arrival time question that it’s expected to be in the next months and not weeks. Suggesting a Summertime arrival of the feature is probably the earliest it’ll pop up. Additionally, Neumann says the teams are also looking at the idea of adding touch controls to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Which would make it a whole lot more accessible to players.
Microsoft already offers a decent number of games that support touch controls. In fact, there’s already over 100 titles in the support list. Including hits like Sea of Thieves, Overcooked 2, Dirt 5, Aragami 2, Yakuza: Like A Dragon and more.
You can try out Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming on mobile devices, the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, and on PC. While you do need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership to gain access, it’s worth it.
