Reddit has just announced ‘Discover Tab’ for both Android and iOS apps. Discover Tab is essentially a new section in the Reddit app that will help you find new, interesting content, conversations, and communities.
The Discover Tab will help you find interesting content on Reddit
The company says this is a “media-first surface”, as it’s trying to be as visually appealing as possible. In addition to the Discover Tab, Reddit also launched Community and Profile Drawers, so that you can prioritize communities that you care most about.
Reddit says that these additions are made based on suggestions from its users. The company says that Redditors said they want “an easier way to explore current and new interests”. The company also added that during its initial testing of Discover Tab, one in five people joined at least one new community.
Your interests play a huge part in this
So, how will this work? It will be based on your interests, of course. For example, if you love football, you end up subscribing and spending a lot of time in football subs, the Discover Tab will make sure to offer more sports content to you, especially football-related content.
How can you access the Discover Tab? Well, presuming that the feature rolled out to your app, you can tap the new compass icon, which is included in the bottom bar, next to the home button.
At the very top of the Discover Tab, you can filter the feed to a specific topic. That way, you can find specific content and communities. Under those settings, you’ll see the feed where the content is shown.
Reddit also included feedback mechanisms here, so that it makes sure that the feed improves over time. You can choose between “show me more of this content”, “show me less of that content”, or “hide that content” options.
New Community and Profile Drawers can help as well
What about new Community and Profile Drawers, though? Well, once you find some new communities, and join them, you’ll need to keep all of them organized. That’s where the new Community and Profile Drawers come in handy.
This allows you to prioritize the communities you want to hear from the most. The Community Drawer is divided into four sections: “Moderating entry points”, “Your communities”, “Following”, and “r/all”.
