Capcom Apparently Used A Generic Stock Logo For Street Fighter 6

Yesterday morning Capcom revealed Street Fighter 6, showing off a short teaser alongside the game’s new logo. Initially, nothing seemed amiss. But it didn’t take long for that to change. Eagle-eyed users on Twitter have pointed out that Capcom has apparently used a logo from Adobe’s Stock site.

While there are a couple of minor differences, it’s hard to dispute that the logo is essentially the same. An adjustment to the line width here, some rounded corners and more angled lines of the ‘S’ and ‘F’ letters there. Add a number 6. Boom. Totally new logo, right? RIGHT?

Not exactly. If you look at both logos side by side, those adjustments do nothing to hide the similarities. Someone at Capcom seems to have sat down, searched for logos with the letters S and F and found something they thought was appropriate, and tweaked the absolute minimum of details. It’s almost as if the company isn’t even trying to hide it. Which leads us to think two things are possible here.

The Street Fighter 6 logo could just be a placeholder

As some have pointed out, Capcom could just be using a placeholder logo here. Until it’s ready to show off the real logo later on. And while that’s certainly possible, it seems unlikely. Way back in 2014, the official Street Fighter V announcement trailer had the official logo. Not a placeholder.

So it’s a little hard to believe that Capcom wasn’t prepared this time around with a proper logo for the announcement teaser. Then again, it’s not impossible. The other scenario is that Capcom was lazy and whoever was in charge of creating the logo paid $80 for a stock one then modified just enough in hope’s no one would notice. Or Capcom actually thought this was a good idea.

Does this really matter?

A good question. A good question indeed. It may seem like this isn’t a huge deal. And perhaps it’s not. Some players have certainly voiced that no one should really care. It’s a logo after all, and it’s not exactly indicative of how the game will be.

Although, this is exactly what some players fear. The reason some fans have shown discontent for this choice is because if Capcom did in fact use a stock logo from Adobe’s Stock site (regardless of whether they paid the $80 for it or not), it potentially shows lack of effort and laziness in other parts of the game. At the very least players will question it.

And quite honestly, that’s not a very good look. Especially when you compare logos from past games. Hell, even a couple of users on Twitter have come up with better options within 24 hours of the game’s reveal. And if a random assortment of fans on Twitter can come up with a better logo in less than 24 hours, surely Capcom could have done the same in the amount of time it had to create one for the teaser. But I digress. Maybe Capcom will swap it out before launch? Who’s to say.
