Google is making it easier to find and delete unwanted apps or games on your Android device with its Files by Google app. A recent update to the app adds three new chip filters — Large apps, Unused apps, and Games — to the “Apps” category in the “Browse” tab. These chips will let you quickly find apps and games that you can delete to free up some storage space.

As you might expect, tapping each chip will filter out apps accordingly. You can also combine multiple chips to narrow the scope of the filters. For example, if you want to remove a game that is occupying a lot of storage space, you can select the “Large apps” and “Games” chips. Google uses small colorful icons to denote the category for each app.

These chip filters are available alongside the existing Clean feature in the Files by Google app. It already offered the ability to search for unused apps and delete them. You can also select multiple apps and delete them from within the app at once, without having to do it one by one from the app drawer or device Settings. Now with the latest addition, you can use filters for more accurate search results. You can also use the existing auto-cleaning feature to get rid of unwanted or unused apps or games on your phone.

Files by Google adds another nifty feature

Google frequently adds new features to its file management app. Last year, it introduced a trash folder that saves you from accidentally deleting important files. The app also gained the ability to automatically delete photos that have been backed up to Google Photos. This trick helps you free up storage space on your device. Files by Google recently added a favorites folder as well, giving you faster access to frequently-used files. Now, it is adding another nifty feature to quickly delete unwanted apps.

This change in Google’s file management app seems to be rolling out with one of the recent updates. So you’d want to install the latest version of Files by Google right away. You can click the button below to download the apps from the Google Play Store. If the new chip filters don’t appear for you, check back again in a few days. As Android Police notes, you will need to grant Usage Access permission to the app before you can use the new feature.
