As of this morning, the Nintendo Switch now has access to Crunchyroll via an official app. Finally, owners of the popular gaming handheld can enjoy the best anime streaming service on the handheld. Crunchyroll officially announced the release of the app this morning. Noting that it’s available for download immediately.

Outside of the Crunchyroll website, the app is available on just about every single platform. Xbox, PlayStation, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android, iOS, they all have an official app for streaming anime shows. Heck, even the Wii U has a Crunchyroll app. Albeit, not for long since Nintendo is officially pulling down the eShop for the Wii U next month.

The point is, Nintendo’s much older Wii U had access to Crunchyroll, and its much more popular Nintendo Switch did not. Until today.

The Nintendo Switch Crunchyroll app is free

Like its other variations, the Crunchyroll app on Switch is completely free to download and use. However, you’ll still need a subscription to Crunchyroll Premium if you want access to certain stuff.

Like various features, and the ability to see the latest anime as it airs in Japan instead of having to wait. Of course if you already have a Crunchyroll Premium subscription then all you’ll have to do is login and all of your content will be there.

Anime can be enjoyed through the app while the Switch is docked, or in handheld or tabletop modes too. Which means no matter how you enjoy your Switch, you can enjoy your favorite anime the same way.

On top of all that, you get offline viewing (perfect for those portable Switch days) if you’re a Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan subscriber.

If you’re curious about how the app looks on the console, you can take a peek at the screenshots below. It looks pretty standard, and not too different from the mobile app. Except for the hamburger menu on the side which the mobile app no longer has.

You can also watch the trailer for the Nintendo Switch Crunchyroll app release above if you feel so inclined. Now that the Crunchyroll app is available, it’s your move, Netflix.
