Samsung has raised the bar for Android smartphone makers with its all-new Galaxy S22 Ultra. As you can find out in our review, the device has a lot going for it and could very well be the smartphone to beat this year. We recently saw the handset being put through several torturous durability tests and it came out strongly. The phone is structurally solid. Now, the same source (PBKreviews) has provided us with a drop test onto concrete to see how tough the device’s Armor Aluminum frame and the Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back panels are.

First, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is dropped from a waist-level height (around three feet) on its back. And you’ll be disappointed to know that the Super Clear Glass covering the rear cameras shattered at first drop. The glass back panel, which hit the concrete ground, didn’t exhibit any major damage apart from minor scratches at the bottom. Dropping the phone from the same height on its bottom also didn’t cause much damage. The frame suffered some scratches but that’s about it.

However, the worst has yet to come. If your Galaxy S22 Ultra drops on its side, there’s little chance it’ll come out unscathed, it seems. The curved part of the screen hit that hit the concrete first is completely shattered with cracks extending up to the middle of the screen. Thankfully, the screen is still working fine. And it continues to work fine even after a flat drop on the screen, though we now have more cracks. But with a drop from a higher level (about six feet), the screen finally gave out. The back glass remained intact for the most part though. You can watch the full Galaxy S22 Ultra drop test at the end of this article.

Don’t forget to put a cover on your Galaxy S22 Ultra

Of course, these are worst-case scenarios. Most of us won’t likely drop our smartphone onto concrete from a height of six feet. But it’s still nice to know how strong a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will hold should you drop it from your pocket or bag. It will be safer to put a cover on this phone. Perhaps apply some kind of protection on the screen as well. There are enough options out there.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra starts at $1,199 and is now available to pre-order from Samsung as well as several other third-party retailers.
