eBay

  • Size: Varies with device
  • Google Play rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars

eBay is one of the most popular places for people to do their online shopping, if not the most popular one. This company has been around for a long time at this point, and their app is actually really good, it does the job. You can search for pretty much anything on eBay, and chances are you’ll find it in one form or the other. No matter if you’re looking for socks, shoes, or perhaps a car, or a fridge… this marketplace has it all.

eBay is essentially a hub for sellers. It allows people to open their very own online shops, and then it connects them with consumers. That is actually quite similar to how other similar companies do their business, others listed here. eBay is a really good choice no matter if you’re planning to purchase something small and cheap from China, or from someone who is selling from your country. You can narrow down your searches, not as much as on some other apps, but there you have it.

This app allows you to save products you may want to purchase, and then track their price tags. You can purchase products straight up, or bid for some products that are up for sale. If you end up being the highest bidder, you’ll purchase that product. eBay does not offer a dark mode yet, but that feature is hopefully coming soon. Also, unlike Amazon, eBay allows you to purchase using PayPal, which is not surprising considering we’re looking at sister companies.

Amazon Shopping

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: No
  • Size: Varies with device
  • Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

The vast majority of people from the US prefer buying for their products via Amazon. That is understandable, as the vast majority of such products ship from the US. On top of that, Amazon offers great customer service, and companies tend to send their products directly via Amazon. It’s a somewhat different online store than eBay, and chances are that you prefer one or the other, very few people have the same appreciation for both.

Amazon, however, is not available everywhere, which is why eBay is a better choice in some countries. Amazon’s application is not ground-breaking, quite the contrary. It’s quite simple, as is eBay’s app, but that’s a good thing. Even if you’re not too tech savvy, you’ll know how to use this app, and its UI is actually quite similar to the desktop one… but in mobile form. The experience is just as good as on a desktop.

You can actually use Alexa in order to shop via this application, and the app allows you to scan product barcodes if you want. Sharing links to products is also extremely simple from this application, no matter where you’d like to share them. You can also sign up for automatic shipment notifications via this application, if you want. Just like eBay, this app is free to download and use.

AliExpress

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: None
  • Size: 106MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars

AliExpress is not as popular as eBay, even though it’s not far either. AliExpress managed to become extremely popular over the year, and it’s actually quite similar to eBay. You can purchase various products from people who are selling them, mostly from China. Those sellers have their very own ratings, the better the ranking, the easier should be your decision to purchase a product from that specific person.

Just like on eBay, consumers rate these sellers, so if you’re satisfied with the service and the product, you should definitely provide your rating. You can shop for a large range of products using AliExpress. There are millions of products available, and the app provides you with a rather capable search tool. This app will also provide you with various coupons, discounts, flash sale information, and giveaways from time to time, so you can save up some cash as well.

AliExpress also provides free shipping for over 75-percent of products that are available via the service, which is commendable. As you use the app, it will learn what you’re interested in, so you’ll be getting personalized feeds with products that you may be interested in. Just like the other two apps we’ve talked about, this app is free to download and use.

Wish

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: No
  • Size: 27MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars

Wish is actually a great choice for gift ideas. Why? Well, the app has a really great personalized feed. The more you use it, the smarter it will get, and suggest products that you’re interested in. So, give it some time, search for things that interest you, and you won’t be sorry. That personalized feed is neverending, basically, so you can scroll through it for days and see what’s on offer.

We actually prefer Wish from that point of view. If you really don’t know exactly what you want to buy, or simply want to browse, this is the app to get. Other than that, the premise is similar to eBay and AliExpress. Most products here are shipped from China, and are sold by people who decided to open online shops with the app. Customer ratings are also available, as that is the way you can recognize a good seller from a bad one.

The best thing about Wish is, the comments system, and it has a really robust rating system. Using the comments section, you can see what other people think about a specific product. Those who rated it can also submit real-life images of a product, so that you can see exactly what you’re dealing with. Those images are sometimes considerably different than the provided renders on Wish, or images that have been heavily edited, so they can be quite useful.

letgo

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: $0.99-$379.99
  • Size: 22MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

In case you need to sell something, but don’t want to handle shipping, letgo can help you out. This application works off of your location. It will find buyers nearby, so that you can hand over your item in person. All you need to do is list your item, along with pictures and a description, and buyers will contact you if interested. This app will never reveal your exact address, but will share a nearby location with buyers. So, they’ll never be able to guess what’s your address, but will know approximately in what part of a city you’re at.

Letgo managed to become extremely popular all over the world. The application is really simple to use, and great if you need to offload something quickly. This app is an ideal solution for larger items as well, as you probably don’t want to ship a fridge via a courier. That’s just an example, of course. You can list pretty much anything on letgo, it can even serve you as an online garage sale of sorts.

The app is really simple to use. Simply type in what you’re interested in, or browse from a number of categories. The app will automatically filter listings close to you, though you have some control over that as well. The app has well over a million ratings in the Play Store, and is currently holding a 4.5-star rating. If you need to offload something quickly, or need to sell a large item, this is an ideal solution, though people seem to have some complaints since the OfferUp merger.

Shpock

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: $0.99-$79.99
  • Size: 24MB
  • Google Play rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars

Shpock is an alternative to letgo, and a really good alternative at that. This app started off in the UK, but you can now use it elsewhere as well. The app works in a really similar fashion to letgo, it’s great for local and national purchases. Shpock offers customer payment protection (and for sellers as well), and the company’s application looks great on top of everything.

Do note that you should be aware of some regulations for selling goods in your country before using this app. That goes for letgo as well. Other than that, the process is quite simple. All you need to do is submit a description, title, and description of whatever you’re selling, and you’re good to go. If you’re a buyer, you can simply search for items, or browse them via various categories, similar to letgo.

This app is really clean in terms of the design, and easy to use. Unlike letgo, Shpock uses a combination of white and green colors to provide us all with a slick UI. The app is free to use, though it does contain ads and in-app purchases. You’re not forced to pay anything, though, so don’t worry about that.

Alibaba

  • Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

If you’re looking to get a ton of products from China at once, Alibaba is your best bet. This is quite possibly the largest B2B online store in the world. Alibaba is based in China, and the vast majority of B2B goods in large quantities are being imported from China, pretty much. We’re talking about purchasing goods on a global scale, of course.

The company’s app is actually quite similar to its mobile website. It’s nothing special in terms of the design, but it’s highly functional. For every item, you’ll see a highlighted minimum number that you can order. So, for example, it can be 10 pieces, or 500 pieces… it all depends on an item. The more you order, the cheaper those items will get, of course. For some items, you can order one item as well, without a problem, just in case you’d like to test it out before getting more.

Alibaba also offers ‘Inspection Service’, just to ensure an item that you’re about to order meets quality demands. This app also offers various discounts on a regular basis, and it supports 16 languages. The app also supports 140 local currencies. Alibaba’s app is free to download, and it comes without ads and in-app purchases.

GearBest

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: None
  • Size: 27MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

GearBest is an online store similar to eBay and AliExpress, though GearBest is selling them directly. The thing is, GearBest specializes in mobile phones, consumer electronics, smart home products, computer products, appliances, drones, and various other gadgets. You can find 3D printers here, laser engravers, electric scooters… and various other gadgets.

The app is not exactly ground-breaking in terms of the design, just like most other apps on this list, but it does the job well. Much like most other apps we’ve listed, you’ll also be able to access various discounts via this application. Consumers submitted over 1 million reviews for products GearBest sold, so there are plenty of opinions to read through before you buy something.

Some prices on GearBest are app-exclusive, which means that some discounts are permanent here. GearBest has warehouses across the US, China, and Europe, so specific items may be shipped from the US or Europe, even though most will come from China. That will be highlighted when you’re buying an item. The app is free to use, and is free of ads and in-app purchases.

Etsy

  • Google Play rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars

Etsy is a rather unique app. Why? Well, if you’d like to support small businesses, and buy some high quality, handmade goods at the same time, this is the perfect place to do it. There’s a catch, though, these goods are usually considerably more expensive than somewhat similar ones in other stores. Truth be said, you won’t find the same stuff there. These products are not cheap Chinese imports, but handmade products.

Let me give you an example. I was browsing Etsy, looking for a carabiner, and I stumbled upon some really, really nice titanium carabiners. I have never seen such a carabiner on any other shopping app, but here. Considering it’s out of titanium, and in limited quantities, it is quite expensive, though. The thing is, it looked like it can take a beating, and serve for a long, long time. I didn’t end up buying it, but it sure is an example.

You’ll find a lot of such examples here. I found quite a few products made out of titanium, such as really nice, handmade knives. Leather-made products are also quite popular on Etsy. The app’s design is very nice as well, and it’s a perfect place to shop for Christmas as well. Your family and friends will surely appreciate some of the nice products you can find here.
