Midway through January, Samsung released the Android 12 update to the Galaxy A52 5G. But the update was limited to the international markets such as Europe, India, and South Korea. Now, the US version of the midrange phone is also receiving the big Android update.
According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the unlocked variant of the Galaxy A52 5G (SM-A526U1) is currently picking up the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update in the US. The new firmware version for the popular 2021 Galaxy mid-ranger is A526U1UEU4CVA4. Carrier-locked variants of the phone should also soon join the party.
The OTA (over the air) release for the unlocked Galaxy A52 5G is already available to units on all major wireless carriers in the country, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South, Comcast, C-Spire, and Xfinity Mobile. It’s worth noting here that software updates are usually pushed in batches and may not reach all eligible units simultaneously. So if you’re using an unlocked Galaxy A52 5G in the US and haven’t received the Android 12 update yet, do not worry. It’ll hit your unit in a few days.
As always, you will be notified of the OTA update when it becomes available for your phone. But you can also manually check for it very easily. Simply open the Settings app and navigate to the Software update menu. Now, tap Download and install to check if an OTA update is pending download. If there’s no update available, check back again later. Since it’s a major Android update with a download size in GBs, you might want to connect your Galaxy A52 5G to a Wi-Fi network to avoid unwanted cellular data charges. It’s also advisable to back up important files before installing big software updates.
Galaxy A52 5G receives its first major Android update
Launched in early 2021, the Galaxy A52 5G came with Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box. The Android 12-based One UI 4.0 is the first major Android update for the phone. Going forward, it will receive at least two more Android OS updates, i.e. Android 13 and Android 14. Samsung has recently promised to offer four years of Android OS updates to some of its phones. But it’s unclear whether that generosity covers the Galaxy A52 5G. We will let you know as and when we have more information. In the interim, look out for the Android 12 update if you haven’t already received it.
