We all know how bad things can get when things don’t go Trump’s way.

In a move that surprised no one, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to hurl insults at Democrats, accusing them of being “Radical Left SleazeBags” who have “totally lost their confidence and reason.” And what inspired all that vitriol? Democrats are simply asking the Supreme Court to protect birthright citizenship, as protected under the Constitution.

For some context, Trump’s executive order, signed on January 20, 2025, seeks to deny U.S. citizenship to children born on American soil to undocumented immigrants or those on temporary visas. This move challenges the long-standing interpretation of the 14th Amendment’s Citizenship Clause, which grants citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s Truth Social outburst comes amid Supreme Court hearings focused not on the constitutionality of birthright citizenship itself—a principle upheld since the 1898 decision in United States v. Wong Kim Ark—but on whether federal judges can issue nationwide injunctions to block such presidential orders.

They are stone cold CRAZY!

Crazy or not, the legal precedent supporting birthright citizenship is robust. In addition to the Wong Kim Ark decision, the Supreme Court’s ruling in Plyler v. Doe (1982) affirmed that the Equal Protection Clause applies to all persons within the United States, regardless of immigration status.

Democrats have been vocal in their opposition to Trump’s executive order. Over 200 House Democrats filed an amicus brief arguing that the order violates the Constitution and over a century of Supreme Court rulings. Representative Jamie Raskin stated, “Trump cannot end the Constitutional right to birthright citizenship with the stroke of his pen. That’s laughable.”

As the legal proceedings continue, the Supreme Court’s decision will have significant implications for the interpretation of the 14th Amendment and the limits of executive power. In the meantime, Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric serves as a distraction from the substantive legal issues at hand. While the courts deliberate, the nation watches closely, awaiting a decision that will either reaffirm or redefine the foundational principles of American citizenship.
