Grab your popcorn ‘coz the Shkreli case just got interesting (again).
Kevin Mulleady, a former associate of Martin Shkreli and ex-CEO of Vyera Pharmaceuticals, was arrested in Miami on May 1, 2025, after allegedly threatening to kill Shkreli and two other former business partners. According to Miami-Dade police, Mulleady sent threatening messages via social media, including one stating he was “Going to murder Martin.”
According to the Miami-Dade County arrest report, the investigation into Mulleady began on March 27, 2025, after one of the victims reported to the FBI that Mulleady sent threats via the social media platform X to him and the other victims. The complete message mentioning Shkreli read, “Im going to murder Martin. Not sure if I should kill you yet. Im going to kill him and maybe you. This will be the gun that kills you.”
Shkreli was convicted in 2017 of securities fraud and conspiracy for deceiving investors in his hedge funds and misappropriating funds from his pharmaceutical company, Retrophin. In 2018, he was sentenced to seven years in federal prison, fined $75,000, and ordered to forfeit $7.3 million in assets, including a rare Wu-Tang Clan album.
Initially incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, he was later transferred to FCI Fort Dix and then to FCC Allenwood. Shkreli was released in May 2022 to a halfway house and completed his sentence in September 2022
“I will kill you with my bare hands”
According to Miami news outlet WPLG, a different message said, “I will kill you with my bare hands if I was legally permitted to do it. I think about ending your life bc you are a really bad person. I dare you to call the cops. Hit #1 for Kevin threating (sic) you. You are a weak evil man. Im going to take you down. Bring your worst. Ill bring mine.”
And another added, “I hate you. I want you to die. So call the cops you lil f—. Tell them Kevin Patrick Mulleady is going to kill you. Maybe the NYAG [New York attorney general] could help you with my threats on your life im coming for you. Im going to hurt you big time. It will include physical pain. Kiss kiss b—.”
The report does not specify which threats were sent directly to Shkreli. Mulleady, 42, of Brickell, is facing three felony charges for written threats to kill or cause bodily injury. As of now, bond information has not been set.
The Mulleady and Shkreli bromance
Mulleady and Shkreli’s professional relationship dates back to the early 2010s. Mulleady helped Shkreli start both Retrophin and Vyera Pharmaceuticals (formerly Turing Pharmaceuticals). At Vyera, Mulleady initially served as managing director and chief of staff to Shkreli. He later became CEO, a position he held until March 2019.
During their tenure, the company came under fire for raising the price of Daraprim, a life-saving medication, by roughly 4,000 percent.
In 2020, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and several state attorneys general filed a lawsuit against Vyera, Shkreli, and Mulleady for anticompetitive behavior that allowed the defendants to charge exorbitantly high prices for Daraprim.
In December 2021, a settlement was reached requiring Vyera and its parent company to provide up to $40 million in relief over 10 years to consumers and to make Daraprim available to any potential generic competitor at the cost of producing the drug.
Mulleady agreed to pay $250,000 if he violates the settlement, which barred him from working for a pharmaceutical company for seven years.
