Samsung is almost ready to launch new wearables in the coming weeks. This year, the company will announce the Galaxy Watch 8 series, of which at least two models are currently known. Meanwhile, a certification has confirmed the commercial name of the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, marking the return of this model after its absence in the latest generation.

In 2024, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 7 series. There’s a vanilla model and an Ultra model, but no “Classic” variant. The reason for the absence of the Classic model for the company’s latest smartwatches is unknown, as not even Samsung offered an explanation. That said, fans of the rotating bezel seem to be in for a treat this year.

Galaxy Watch 8 Classic name confirmed; the return of the rotating bezel?

As spotted by Xpertpick, Bluetooth SIG has certified the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. The listing confirms both the device’s moniker and its model number (SM-L505U). Unfortunately, the listing doesn’t include any other key details about the device. However, the Bluetooth certification indicates that an official launch is imminent. Everything points to Samsung unveiling them in July at its second Unpacked event of the year.

Not much is known about the Galaxy Watch 8 series yet. In fact, only the vanilla and Classic models have been spotted so far. This doesn’t mean Samsung is getting rid of the Ultra variant this year, though. Its certifications and details will likely emerge in the coming days.

The return of the Classic model to the Galaxy Watch 8 series will surely please those who were disappointed by the design of the current Watch 7. The main difference between the standard and Classic Galaxy Watches is a convenient rotating bezel for controlling the UI. The Watch 7 devices opted for a “touch bezel” as a control option, ditching the beloved rotating bezel. Now, everything points to the Galaxy Watch 8 series bringing it back.

Vanilla Watch 8 battery capacity leaked

Regarding the vanilla Galaxy Watch 8, a certification revealed it will have a 435mAh battery. The latest certification for the Classic variant did not reveal the wearable’s battery capacity. For reference, the Galaxy Watch Classic 6 featured a 425mAh cell. The model numbers SM-L320, SM-L325U, SM-L330, and SM-L335U are associated with the standard Galaxy Watch 8. Lastly, the model numbers SM-L505 and SM-L500 belong to the Watch 8 Classic.
