After turning up at Pope Francis’ funeral in a blue suit and having a rather pretentious epiphany where he realized Vladimir Putin might not be his best friend, U.S. president Donald Trump did what he does best – be utterly, shamelessly despicable by snatching American kids – 2, 4, and a 7-year-old child – from their families and deporting them in the middle of the night. The more horrifying part? The 4-year-old has stage 4 cancer and was thrown onto a plane to Honduras without his medication, access to doctors, or lawyers.

Since returning to the presidency in January 2025, Donald Trump has aggressively pursued a sweeping and controversial immigration agenda to execute his promised mass deportations. While many supported his stance and decisions in the beginning, it is steadily becoming harder and harder to remain blind to his ruthless actions and refusal to provide due process.

The latest deportation throws his inhuman immigration crackdown into the glaring spotlight after three U.S. citizen children were deported, along with their undocumented mothers, by the New Orleans Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on April 25, 2025. As per their lawyers and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the families – who had lived in America for years – were detained during their routine check-ins in New Orleans as part of the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program. From there, they were driven three hours away to Alexandria, Louisiana, and were not given the chance to contact their families or avail legal help. The civil rights organization revealed that one of the mothers barely got a minute on the phone with her spouse as the call was dropped the second he tried to provide her a number to a lawyer.

Under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, those born in the U.S. – regardless of their parents’ immigration status – are legally U.S. citizens. And yep, Trump did try to repeal birthright citizenship, but his executive order was blocked by multiple judges.

The ACLU further shared that of the children deported, the 4-year-old is suffering from a rare form of metastatic cancer. But even though ICE was notified about his state and his sensitive health needs, they paid no heed to his condition and deported him without any care. The same happened with the mother of the two-year-old, who was pregnant, and no arrangements were made to ensure she had access to prenatal care or proper medical assistance.

“Once again, the government has used deceptive tactics to deny people their rights. These outrageous actions must be condemned. We as a nation are better than this,” said Alanah Odoms, the Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana. “These families deserve better. They must be returned.”

According to ACLU, both mothers and their children were deported without due process after they were isolated and denied their rights, even though they were voluntarily complying with ICE’s orders. “If this is what the Trump administration is orchestrating just three months in, we should all be terrified of what the next four years will bring,” added Mich P. Gonzalez, founding partner of Sanctuary of the South.

Is this what MAGA had in mind when they championed Trump’s election? Is this the “paradise” they were daydreaming about?
