In the coming months, Samsung plans to refresh its foldable range of Galaxy Z series phones. A recent report suggested that the company could host its second ‘Unpacked’ event of 2025 in “early July”. At the event, the brand could unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable devices. Samsung could also give us a glimpse at a tri-fold display-toting phone at the same event.
Besides, there are reports that Samsung wants to capture a market share of the affordable foldable smartphones with a device soon. So far, the rumor mill has suggested that Samsung could call this phone the Galaxy Z Flip FE or Fan Edition. However, there’s a possibility that Samsung could end up naming its affordable foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Flip Xe instead.
The Galaxy Z Flip Xe could be the name of its upcoming affordable foldable phone
Earlier leaks have indicated that Samsung’s upcoming affordable foldable phone has the model number SM-F761. A carrier has listed the Galaxy Z Flip Xe on its eSIM compatibility page. The company has slightly changed the model convention this year. Last year, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 featured the model number SM-F741, while reports suggest that the Z Flip 7 will carry the SM-F766 number.
While the model numbers are a separate thing, Samsung seems to be unsure what to call its affordable foldable offering. So far, the reports have indicated that the company could call it the Galaxy Z Flip FE, just like the name of the Galaxy S24 FE. However, the device in question could see the light of day as the Z Flip Xe.
The GSMA database has listed the Galaxy Z Flip Xe since last year
It’s worth mentioning that the GSMA database has included a Samsung phone named Galaxy Z Flip Xe since late last year. This gives more fuel to the fire that Samsung is rethinking its strategy when it comes to renaming its upcoming pocket-friendly foldable phone.
That said, it’s not clear if Galaxy Z Flip Xe will be the official name of the device, or if it’s just a placeholder on GSMA’s website. Besides, the company has delayed the launch of that particular model as it wants to focus on the regular foldables first. We’ll only know for sure in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
