Gary Thomas Tom Keesee via Licking County Sheriff’s Office
The accusations involve the pastor’s son, who has said there’s more to the story.
Faith Life Church, a prominent megachurch in New Albany, Ohio, is under intense scrutiny following serious sexual misconduct allegations involving a member of its founding family. Ohio’s Licking County Sheriff’s Office is leading an active investigation into claims that include sexual assault, grooming, and inappropriate relationships with at least three minors, some dating back over two decades.
The investigation focuses on Gary Thomas “Tom” Keesee, the adult son of co-pastors Gary and Drenda Keesee. Tom Keesee, who previously served as the church’s chief media officer, resigned from his position in August 2024.
Documents from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office detail allegations against him, including assault, attempted assault, inappropriate texting, and grooming of young girls.
According to Ohio news outlet WSYX, the alleged abuse happened when Keesee was between 12 and 14 years old, and all three accusers were under the age of 13. Keesee was formally indicted on 11 counts related to the case on April 21, 2025.
The severity of the allegations has prompted a comprehensive investigation. The Licking County Sheriff’s Office is conducting interviews with church leaders, staff, and individuals affiliated with the church during the time of the alleged incidents.
“The truth will come out,” the suspect’s father said

In response to the allegations, Faith Life Church issued a statement acknowledging the serious nature of the claims involving a member of the church leaders’ family. The church emphasized that no allegations have been made against co-pastors Gary and Drenda Keesee or other pastors of the church.
The church also highlighted the implementation of strict policies and procedures designed to protect children and youth, including thorough screening processes, volunteer training, and strict supervision protocols. However, when asked for copies of these policies and their implementation dates, the church’s legal counsel did not respond.
The allegations have sparked significant concern within the community. An online petition calling for Drenda Keesee’s resignation from her position as Knox County Commissioner has garnered hundreds of signatures. The petition accuses her of protecting adults accused of sexual abuse and workplace child abuse, including a close family member.
During recent church services, Gary Keesee addressed the congregation, stating, “There’s another side. And the truth will come out.” Drenda Keesee also spoke, asking God to forgive “those who hurt us” and asserting that those who know them understand the allegations are untrue.
Authorities are seeking additional information
The investigation, initially involving both the Knox and Licking County Sheriff’s Offices, is now being led solely by Licking County authorities. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is providing support as needed. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation have recused themselves from the case due to conflicts of interest, citing personal relationships with the Keesees.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward. The church has expressed its willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and encourages individuals with relevant information to report concerns to the proper authorities.
