Nuance doesn’t exactly seem to be the administration’s strong suit.

Kristi Noem — the woman who couldn’t handle a puppy’s behavioral issues without reaching for a firearm has now decided she’s the perfect arbiter of American values and national security threats.

Yes, you read that right. The current head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) allegedly killed her own dog. But hey, what’s a little animal cruelty when you’re climbing the political ladder? Noem has established herself as one of the most polarizing figures in modern politics, not because of her competence (I’ll wait while you find examples of that) but for her ability to weaponize fear and outrage while maintaining the smug self-assurance of someone who has never been told “no.”

And now, this literal dog-killer is waging a bizarre war on Harvard University, of all places. Yup, the same Harvard that has survived wars, revolutions, and centuries of intellectual evolution is now apparently a cesspool of “terrorism” and “antisemitism” under Noem’s watchful authoritarian gaze. Her latest move? Threatening to ban Harvard from hosting foreign students and yanking millions in federal grants because, according to her, it’s a breeding ground for anti-American ideology.

Noem recently sent a scathing letter to Harvard’s leadership, accusing the university of harboring “foreign visa-holding rioters” and fostering an environment of antisemitism. According to Noem, this post-Hamas-attack climate on campus is a national security threat. She’s demanding records on foreign students who participated in protests and threatening to revoke Harvard’s ability to enroll international students through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Oh, and she also canceled $2.7 million in federal grants to the school.

Asking Harvard to police its students’ political activities and turn over records is a blatant violation of academic freedom and privacy. And the idea that Harvard, of all places, is ground zero for “terrorism” is laughable. Sure, universities are hotbeds for political activism, but that’s the point. Higher education is supposed to challenge conventional thinking, not march in lockstep with the government’s agenda.

She and Trump — who has his own beef with Harvard, threatening to revoke its tax-exempt status and freeze billions in federal funding — are using the university as a convenient scapegoat to rally their supporters. After all, what’s more satisfying to a MAGA crowd than sticking it to the “liberal elites” who represent everything they despise? The Trump administration’s approach to Harvard reached new heights on Wednesday when the IRS reportedly began planning to rescind the university’s tax-exempt status – a move that would have profound financial implications for the institution. The message, thus, is clear: if you come to America, you’d better fall in line — or else.
