Summary: Google has started rolling out a new feature to Google Wallet, allowing users to see real-time status updates about arrival times for their train. The feature has limited availability for the time being, though, and only works with one railway in the supported regions.
Google Wallet can now reportedly inform you about your train times with real-time status updates, so you’ll never be left wondering whether or not you’ll make it to wherever that train is taking you. Google Wallet has been upgraded with several new features over the past few years (such as passport storage), including the ability to store more types of cards and work in more places.
You can also now use it for transportation passes, which makes it all the more useful that it’s gaining the ability to give you updates on arrival times. That being said, Google Wallet is only getting this feature for two countries at the moment. In addition, it’ll only currently work for one railway in each of those countries.
Google Wallet real-time status updates for train times are not available in the US
Unfortunately for users in the US, this new feature for real-time status updates isn’t available in the Google Wallet app. As reported by 9To5Google, this feature is enabled for users in India and users in Canada.
As for the supported railways, in India, the updates will be available for Indian Railways, while Canadian users will be able to see these arrival time updates via Rail. There is no word at the moment on whether or not this will be coming to the US, or when it will arrive if Google does plan to release it here. That being said, Google I/O 2025 is coming up soon, so there is a chance Google could announce something there.
Google Wallet website now lets you add loyalty passes
While US users can’t check Google Wallet to see if their trains are arriving on time, they can use the desktop website to add loyalty passes and gift cards to their digital wallet. Google seems to have recently added this feature to the website version of Google Wallet, so you won’t have to whip out your phone to do so. In most cases, it might feel like second nature to use your phone for this.
However, if you’re already sitting in front of your laptop or desktop, it’s probably more convenient to type everything in on your laptop’s keyboard.
