Summary: Google is making the screen sharing and camera sharing features in Gemini Live free for all users. If you have a device that supports Gemini and Gemini Live, you could see this feature available as early as today.
Gemini Live offers a handful of features to users who subscribe to Gemini Advanced, such as the ability to share your camera and screen, but those features aren’t staying locked behind a paywall for long, as they’re going to be available for free. Today, Google announced that the camera and screen sharing for Gemini Live has been so well received that it’s going to be bringing it to more people.
That means no more Gemini Advanced subscription will be required to use it. It’s an interesting play, given that Google just rolled this feature out to Advanced subscribers as of last week. So it hasn’t been out long, and Google is already moving it over to the free side of the camp.
Gemini Live camera and screen sharing is going free starting today
Google confirms that the feature is going to start rolling out today for free Gemini users. Which means you may already have access to it on your device. However, the company also states that it’ll be rolling out over the coming weeks. That means that some users won’t have access to it right away, and things will be gradually rolling out over time.
It’s also important to note that Gemini Live isn’t available on all Android devices. It’s available on the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy S25 series, as well as any Pixel device with 2GB of RAM or more. That’s still a large number of people, but far from the number of Android users out there, given how many devices run on Android.
If you have a supported device, you may want to check to see if you have the capability to use this new feature. That being said, if the Gemini app is on your device, then you should have access. It’s just a matter of waiting for it to activate.
Using the feature is quite easy
Finding out if you have the feature and then using it couldn’t be a simpler process. All you have to do is launch the Gemini app. From there, tap the Live button in the bottom right corner, and then once Live is up, look for the camera and screen sharing icons. If the feature is available, those icons will be seen across the bottom of the Live UI. If they aren’t there, then the feature isn’t available for you yet.
Checking on my Pixel 8 revealed that this feature isn’t yet live for me. So older devices may take a little more time to get it. Compared to if you were using a Pixel 9 series phone.
