According to a new piece of information that surfaced, OnePlus and OPPO Unified OS will launch in the second half of this year, and ship on top of Android 13.
As most of you know by now, OnePlus and OPPO are sister companies. It was announced a while back that they are combining its software efforts. The OxygenOS from OnePlus, and ColorOS from OPPO, will essentially unite.
OnePlus & OPPO Unified OS expected in H2 2022, placed on top of Android 13
It is worth noting that OxygenOS 12 already has underlying code from ColorOS, but the merger is not yet complete. A Unified OS is expected to arrive at some point this year, and based on this rumor, it’s coming in H2.
The global OnePlus 10 Pro variant will ship with OxygenOS 12, by the way, in case you’re wondering. It will not get Unified OS out of the box, that’s, at least, what is expected to happen.
At this point, some of you are wondering if this new skin will be called ‘Unified OS’. Well, it doesn’t seem like it. The source wasn’t exactly clear on that, but based on what we read, that won’t be the name. Needless to say, it would be a rather odd choice. Anything is possible, though.
H₂OOS name is rumored
A recent rumor said that the new OS could be called H₂OOS. That would be a rather confusing name, needless to say. It remains to be seen what will happen, there are plenty of possibilities.
We don’t even know what exactly to expect. Will the Unified OS essentially be ColorOS (for the most part), or should we expect a mix of ColorOS and OxygenOS? Well, chances are the latter will be the case, as is the case with OxygenOS at the moment.
OnePlus claims that this new, Unified OS, will make it much easier to keep the phones updated, and that the change will benefit consumers, in the end. It was also said that the OS running on OnePlus phones won’t be a carbon copy of the one running on OPPO phones. There will still be differences between the two.
