After Google released Android 16 Beta 3 yesterday, many people have been digging around to see what else might be inside this beta update. And Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority has found that Google might add your lockscreen clock to the notifications panel.
This feature isn’t yet live, so its unlikely to be available in Android 16, when that goes stable in June. Since Beta 3 is platform stability, and all the APIs are now final. Though, Google could surprise us and make it available.
This is part of the Quick Settings overhaul that Google is working on. It’s been present (sort of) in recent Android 16 betas and continues in Beta 3. Though you do need to activate it. With this overhauled Quick Settings UI, the clock is now much larger and no longer in the status bar. This is why Google was able to bring your lockscreen clock style over to the notifications and Quick Settings panel.
The new Quick Settings UI is a major upgrade
What we’ve seen so far for the Quick Settigns overhaul looks really nice. Google has moved the media player to the top, with Settings also being at the top (but only when you swipe all the way down for the Quick Settings). It also allows you to have smaller toggles for things like alarms, airplane mode, and such. Giving you more toggles in the same space. This would fix one of the common complaints about the Quick Settings currently in Android 15.
Though, this feature is unlikely to ship with Android 16 in June. It is likely that we could see this land as part of the first quarterly platform release, or Android 16 QPR1. Google has been known to ship features like this later on, instead of waiting for the next major Android release. Hopefull,y we see it before Android 17 comes out next year.
