The best Smart DNS for watching movies abroad.
After the entire Wicked press tour, and considering the pink and green looks from last year’s Oscars, I knew Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo would slay at this year’s Academy Awards. However, I didn’t expect them to actually defy gravity with their gowns!
That’s right, as the 2025 Oscar nominees (Grande is nominated for Best Supporting Actress while Erivo is up for Lead Actress) walked the carpet, they rocked structured, big and incredible looks that gave big Elphaba and Glinda energy.
Starting with Ariana Grande, she wore Schiaparelli, according to the ABC Red Carpet broadcast. Honestly, it’s giving Glinda’s bubble dress in a new and modern way. Take a look:
I’m obsessed with the juxtaposition of the smooth light pink corset top mixed with the tulle skirt. However, the star of the show is the structured peplum that cascades into the flowy skirt, which really makes this look defy gravity.
On top of all that, Grande brought the fashion moment together with simple glam, a diamond necklace and her signature slicked-back hair do. Overall, it’s giving Grande and Glinda:
Now, onto Cynthia Erivo. While Grande’s look is 100% Glinda-fied, Erivo’s Louis Vuitton dress (via People) is giving big Elphaba energy. Her co-star went for a light pink bubbly gown, while she went for a deep, deep green dress.
The velvet garment is truly stunning, and the giant bow at the top mixed with the high neckline and massive skirt is incredible. Much like how I’m in awe of Elphaba’s powers in Wicked, I’m speechless over this incredible gown:
To top it all off, the actress was obviously rocking a luxe and detailed manicure and shimmering earrings to add some sparkle to the outfit.
Now, both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have said they don’t coordinate their looks. However, I have to wonder if they planned this. Both dresses pay homage to Glinda and Elphaba in unique ways that also highlight the actresses’ individual styles, and I truly cannot get over them.
Overall, these women- and the whole Wicked cast– are bringing this award season to an end with a bang. After over a year of wonderful Wicked looks, these fits are the perfect way to celebrate the success of the first film.
As I stated, Grande and Erivo weren’t the only members of the Wicked cast rocking outfits that would make them “Popular.” For example, the Wizard himself, Jeff Goldblum, was wearing a custom Prada suit that featured an ivory blazer, purple scarf, a lovely patterned shirt, and an incredible flower on his lapel that’s green and purple. As you can see, there’s a lot of Emerald City energy radiating off him:
Overall, the entire ensemble was killing it on the red carpet in ways that paid homage to Wicked beautifully. Talk about a perfect way to close out the award season!
However, it’s a great way to start getting us all excited for the release of Wicked: For Good, too, because the highly anticipated second act of the musical slated on the 2025 movie schedule will fly into theaters on November 21.
