OnePlus ruffled a few feathers when it announced a shift from OxygenOS to a unified ColorOS skin in partnership with OPPO. While ColorOS already runs on OnePlus devices in China, the company was working on releasing it globally. Those plans appear to have received a setback, as per a new report.

91Mobiles cites tipster Yogesh Brar saying that the global version of the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature OxygenOS 12 onboard and not ColorOS 12. This isn’t surprising since OnePlus has already issued the OxygenOS 12 update to a handful of its devices, including the OnePlus 9. To refresh your memory, both ColorOS 12 and OxygenOS 12 are based on the latest Android 12 operating system.

The reasons for the unavailability of ColorOS 12 on the global OnePlus 10 Pro aren’t clear right now. But it seems like OnePlus wants to keep OxygenOS 12 around for at least a few more months.

The OnePlus 10 Pro should reach global markets by late March

In September, OnePlus announced the merging of OxygenOS codebase with ColorOS to offer an improved user experience. It’s worth noting that OnePlus devices in China shifted to ColorOS back in March last year. This also meant bad news for phones running the China-specific HydrogenOS.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently spoke about the challenges they face in rolling out ColorOS to HydrogenOS devices in China. He also clarified that both OS teams are hard at work to figure out a solution.

As for the OnePlus 10 Pro, we know everything about its hardware thanks to its launch in China. Fans outside the region will have to wait until the end of March to get their hands on the new flagship.

The global version of the OnePlus 10 Pro should include a 6.7-inch LTPO2 AMOLED screen with a 120Hz display refresh rate. Users can also expect to find a 48-megapixel primary camera accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera on the rear panel. The front brings a solitary 32-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera.

Since this is a flagship, you will find the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. It will also have 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage. A massive 5,000mAh battery runs underneath, aided by 80W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. It also supports 5G by default, along with an under-display fingerprint scanner (optical), Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and more.
