The reason you go onto YouTube may or may not have changed much since the mid-2000s. Most people open the app for their daily dose of creator-made content. Well, how about binging a season of The Boys or catching up on School Spirits? Well, YouTube wants that to be a possibility, as it wants to be your new streaming hub.

There are streaming services that want you to watch their content. However, there are platforms that want you to be able to access content from all sorts of streaming services. We’ve seen platforms from carriers like Verizon, but the most prominent one is Amazon Prime. It’s a central hub where you can sign up for and watch content from other streaming services. So, rather than going to separate apps, you can access the content all on Prime. It offers this service along with letting you stream its own Prime-exclusive content.

YouTube could be your next streaming hub

While you mostly hop onto YouTube for your dose of MKBHD or MoistCr1tikal, the company embarked on an ambitious venture a few years ago. The company debuted Primetime channels. This allows people to view content from different streaming services on the web. Using this, users could sign up for subscriptions just like with Prime Video.

While the company had this service, people still primarily hop on to watch YouTube internet content. This could change, according to a new report. YouTube might double down on its Primetime channels and make it more visible. This could happen through a home screen revamp. YouTube could push the option to subscribe to streaming services more.

Right now, we’re not sure how this will look. We don’t know if this revamp will be a massive overhaul or if it will just be the home screen with a new section added.

It’s important to note that the report points to this being a feature for the YouTube for TV app. This makes sense for two reasons. Firstly, if you’re going to settle down and watch a two-hour movie or cram a season of a show, you’re most likely going to use your TV. Secondly, most people watch YouTube content on their TVs. So, it makes sense to push this through the TV app.

Be that as it may, we’re sure that we’ll see the mobile app and web version follow soon after. There’s no telling when we’ll see this change come. When it does, you’ll finally be able to watch Wednesday on Netflix and immediately watch Jenna Ortega on Hot Ones.
