The January 2022 Android security patch has reached Samsung‘s Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy S20 FE in the US. They join several other Galaxy devices in receiving last month’s security update stateside. The international versions of both these phones have already picked up the January SMR (security maintenance release).
The Galaxy S10 Lite is receiving the new security update with firmware version G770U1UES6EVA2. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the update is currently available to the unlocked variants of the affordable Galaxy flagship. Users on pretty much all carrier networks in the US should now be able to download it over the air (OTA). The publication has confirmed that the OTA package is rolling out on AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South, Comcast, C-Spire, Sprint, Tracfone, and Xfinity Mobile networks.
The latest security update for the Galaxy S20 FE, meanwhile, is rolling out to the carrier-locked variants. The new firmware version for the device is G781USQS6EVA9. The OTA package is currently available to users on Sprint and T-Mobile’s networks. However, it shouldn’t be long before the rollout reaches users on AT&T and other networks. Unlocked variants of the phone should also receive the new update soon. Likewise, the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S10 Lite should be joining the party as well in the coming days.
Samsung has already revealed the content of the January SMR. It brings fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities. A handful of them are critical vulnerabilities, the company explained. These could cause severe damages to users if exploited in the wild. So you’d want to install the new security update as soon as it’s available. As always, you will be notified of the OTA update once it reaches your phone. You can also manually check for it from the Settings app.
Samsung has already released the February security update
Continuing its long-standing trend, Samsung released the February security update to its devices before entering the new month. It began the rollout late last month, with the Galaxy Note 20 series receiving the new SMR first. The Galaxy A50s and the Galaxy S20 series have also joined the party since. The rollout should reach more Galaxy devices in the coming weeks. We will let you know when it arrives in the US.
Samsung has yet to reveal the content of the latest SMR though. It will likely publish the updated security bulletin after Google releases it next week. We will keep you posted.
