Last month, Instagram announced a new video-editing app called Edits, which, when available will be a direct rival to CapCut. For the uninitiated, ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, owns CapCut. While it could be a coincidence, Edits’ announcement came the same day TikTok and CapCut went dark for a few hours in the US. Now, it appears that Instagram has delayed the Edits app’s launch.

Instagram appears to have delayed the launch of the Edits app by two weeks

As previously announced, the Edits app was scheduled to launch on March 13. Now, there seems to be a change in the plan. If you head over to the pre-order page for the Edits app on the App Store, it now says, “Expected Mar 31, 2025.” In other words, the video-editing app will now launch two weeks later than the originally announced date.

In the announcement post, Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri, referred to Edits as a great tool for those “passionate about making videos” on their smartphones. For those unaware, the Edits app will offer some handy features, including all the editing tools you’d expect.

There’ll be a dedicated inspiration tab alongside another tab to keep track of your ideas. Mosseri also mentioned that the video-editing app will offer a “much higher quality camera” for shooting videos. On top of that, you’ll be able to share all your drafts with friends and other creators.

There are a lot of things you can do with the video-editing app

As seen in the screenshots below, Instagram Edits will allow you to combine multiple clips, crop videos, add sounds and voiceover, add subtitles, and much more. As mentioned earlier, you can also record videos directly from the Edits app. What’s nice is that you’ll have the option to change the resolution, frame rate, and color profiles through respective settings.

Not to forget, you’ll also be able to export videos to other platforms without worrying about a watermark. In addition, users will get “powerful insights” into how such videos perform on the platform. Moreover, the Edits app will first launch on iPhone, with the Android version following later.
