Google released the second Android 16 Beta earlier this month, just over three weeks after dropping the first one. If you are part of the beta program, you might be aware of a few new features by now. We already know that the next Android version could let you choose between double-tap gestures to open your phone’s camera or your wallet. Now, it seems Android 16 could enable a new way to trigger screen saver, without requiring you to dock your device at all.
Android 16 might bring a new way to trigger screen saver
Android, as of now, allows triggering the screen saver using two ways: while charging and while docked and charging. Since Android doesn’t recognize many charging stands as docks, you have to trigger the first option to enable a screen saver with them. Remember, triggering that option also activates the screen saver with any type of charger.
That’s frustrating for users who want the screen saver when the device is on a stand. Today, Android Authority reported spotting code strings for a new trigger called “postured.” The name of the trigger speaks for itself. As you may know, the “postured” state means something is upright and not flat.
This means that the “postured” trigger will only activate the screen saver when the device is upright and charging on a stand, not when it’s lying flat on your bedside table. The new trigger was spotted in the code strings of the Android 16 Beta 2. However, the feature is not live yet in the Beta version. Only time will tell if the new trigger will be available to Android smartphones, or to tablets as well.
The next Android version could also make your device even more secure
Android 16 will also focus on the security and safety of the device and users. A report from earlier this month suggested that Android 16 might let apps know when you enable the Advanced Protection feature. For the uninitiated, this feature doesn’t impact apps installed on your device. In fact, it is only for Android. If you care about security, but don’t want managing the security settings of different apps, the change will be handy.
