A couple of weeks back, Samsung released the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy Z Flip in the US. Today, the big Android update has started rolling out to the unlocked variants of the first clamshell folding Galaxy phone. The Galaxy Fold is also now receiving the new One UI version stateside. The update is currently available to the unlocked variants of the original Samsung foldable. Its carrier-locked counterparts should join the party very soon.
The Android 12 update for the unlocked Galaxy Z Flip units in the US comes with firmware version F700U1UEU4FUL9. The same update for the Galaxy Fold bears firmware version F900U1UEU6GUL9. The new software package is rolling out to units on all carrier networks over the air (OTA), including AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Comcast, C-Spire, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile.
This update brings the January 2022 Android security patch to both devices. But more importantly, it’s One UI 4.0, which has tons of new features and enhancements on the offering. From UI redesign to improved apps, there’s a lot to look forward to here.
Samsung continues to seed Android 12 to more Galaxy devices in the US
Samsung has rolled out the Android 12 update to numerous Galaxy devices over the past few months. These include the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S10, Galaxy Fold, and a few Galaxy A series mid-rangers. Pretty much all of them have received the big Android update in the US as well. But availability has been varied. The company is now gradually seeding the new One UI version to the remaining models and variants.
If you are using the unlocked variant of either the Galaxy Fold or the Galaxy Z Flip in the US, the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update should be available for you anytime now if it hasn’t already. You probably know the drill as far as installing the OTA update is concerned. You should be notified of it once available. But you can also navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install on your phone to see if an OTA package is pending download.
Since it’s a major update, we advise you to create a backup of important files. Just in case, you know. It’s also advisable to connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid unwanted cellular data charges. The download package could weigh well over 2GB depending on the model.
