OnePlus has released a new software update to the original OnePlus Nord. It brings the latest January 2022 Android security patch to the device. The company hasn’t officially announced the rollout on its community forums. But the folks over at XDA Developers have got hold of the full changelog for the update, which is based on OxygenOS 11.1.8.8.

Launched back in July 2020, the OnePlus Nord marked the Chinese brand’s foray into the mid-range smartphone market. The device came with Android 10 out of the box. It received the Android 11 update in March last year and is now awaiting the Android 12 update.

Meanwhile, it continues to pick up new security patches every few months. It is now receiving the January SMR that has been rolling out to several other smartphones over the past few weeks. The latest security update brings fixes for several dozen Android OS vulnerabilities from Google, including a handful of critical ones. There could be some added bug fixes and optimizations from OnePlus as well.

This update for the OnePlus Nord is all about the latest security patch

According to the new report, the OnePlus Nord isn’t receiving anything else with this update. The changelog mentions “improve system stability” but that should not mean any notable changes for users.

Nonetheless, if you’re using the original Nord from 2020, you would probably rejoice to hear that this update is already rolling out globally. Of course, as with every other software update for OnePlus phones, this is an incremental rollout too. Meaning, the company will first release the new software package to a small number of users in each region. If the package is confirmed to be bug-free, a wider rollout will follow.

While you should be notified of the new update once the OTA (over the air) package hits your phone, you can also manually check for it from the Settings app. Simply navigate to System > System updates and tap on Check for updates to see if an OTA update is pending download.

Alternatively, you can download the update file from the links below (via XDA) and manually flash it on your phone. Make sure that you download the right file for your region and that know what you’re doing. Otherwise, you could end up creating some issues on your phone.
