The final trailer for Uncharted has arrived. Set to be released in theaters next month, Uncharted stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in pursuit of the greatest treasure never found. It looks to be an action-packed thrill ride which Holland has described as having the “hardest action sequence” he’s ever done. You can watch the final trailer below.
Synopsis: “Street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.”
“With Uncharted, I was shooting stunts that are far bigger than anything I’ve done before,” Holland said in a behind-the-scenes featurette released ahead of the film. “At times, I’d be like 100 feet in the air, attached to a box that is spinning, and then I would basically hang on until it would throw me off. And it was really scary, but I think that level of fear just makes that scene that much more authentic.”
He added, “It’s the hardest action sequence I’ve ever made.”
Tom Holland’s Casting Happened After a Failed James Bond Pitch
Uncharted has been in development for so long that at one point Mark Wahlberg, who now plays the mentor character in Sully, was going to play Nathan Drake. The unmade movie spun its wheels in development hell and it seemed that it would never actually get made. What it took was for Tom Holland to pitch an unrelated idea of a young James Bond movie to Sony. While that idea didn’t fly, it did eventually lead to Holland’s casting in Uncharted.
“I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with,” Holland said, per GamesRadar. “It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.”
He added: “The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation.”
Ruben Fleischer directs Uncharted using a screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. It is based on the Naughy Dog video game series and produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad. Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas star.
Uncharted will make its way to U.K. cinemas on Feb. 11 followed by a release in the United States on Feb. 18, 2022. The film has been rated PG-13 for violence/action and language.
