The Google Pixel 6a could launch in May, according to a well-known tipster. This information comes from Max Jambor, as he shared it via Twitter. Based on the timing, the device could launch during Google I/O 2022.

The Google Pixel 6a may launch in May, maybe even during Google I/O

Google I/O aka Google’s developer conference, takes place every year around that time. Max Jambor didn’t mention it in his tweet, but it’s possible the Pixel 6a will launch during it. On the flip side, Google could host a separate event for it, or simply launch it without an event.

The Pixel 6a, as you all probably know, is Google’s upcoming mid-range smartphone. This device actually surfaced in CAD-based renders already, last year. Considering how early those renders appeared, some people assumed the device will come sooner than expected.

Well, it seems like that won’t be the case, we’ll have to wait for mid-year in order to get it. The Pixel 6a will look very similar to the Pixel 6, based on the shared renders. The device will adopt a new design that Google pushed out with the Pixel 6 series.

It will include a large camera strip on the back, a more squarish design, and so on. A centered display camera hole will be a part of the package, and rather thin bezels. Its display will be flat, while its bottom bezel will be thicker than the rest.

The phone will include two cameras on the back

It seems like Google plans to include two cameras on the back of the device. We’re assuming these will be wide and ultrawide cameras. We just don’t know what sensors will Google use in this phone.

In regards to size, the Pixel 6a will be smaller than the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Its display will measure 6.2 inches, allegedly, compared to a 6.4-inch display on the Pixel 6, and a 6.7-inch panel on the Pixel 6 Pro.

The Pixel 6a is said to measure 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.7mm (10.4mm with the camera bump), roughly. That will make it large enough for most people, and yet compact enough not to make you feel like you’re carrying a brick.
