Both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite arrived towards the end of October. The former launched in 2023, while the latter arrived in 2024. Well, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is also coming in October, but it will arrive earlier than usual.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will arrive earlier than usual, allegedly
Based on a new report, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to launch in early October. That also means that the Snapdragon Summit 2025 will take place earlier than usual. Well, if this information is accurate, of course.
Chances are that the info is accurate though, as the information is provided by Digital Chat Station, one of China’s most notable tipsters. He did share some other information regarding the chip.
He said that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to use TSMC’s N3P node, which is an advanced 3nm manufacturing process. That chip should offer better power efficiency.
A 20% improvement in CPU performance is expected
Previous information said that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will bring a 20% improvement in CPU performance, along with better power efficiency. GPU improvements are also expected.
What will be interesting to see is how much will the chip cost. It could be more expensive than the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is already quite pricey. Qualcomm also has to think about its competition.
Qualcomm will have some serious competition next year too
Samsung’s Exynos chips are seemingly way behind and out of the running at the moment, but MediaTek did a fantastic job with its flagship chip this year. The Dimensity 9400 is outstanding based on our experience with phones powered by that processor. So, the Dimensity 9500 is expected to provide plenty of competition for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
Do note that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 name is used as a placeholder, we’re still not sure what will the chip be called. This year, Qualcomm yet again changed its naming scheme. That chip was expected to be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
If we had to guess, we’d say that the company will either go with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. It remains to be seen.
