The PS5 and Xbox Series X are still hard to find even a year later, as stock of both consoles continues to be low. Ever since Sony and Microsoft launched what are now the current-gen consoles on November 19th of last year, people have been trying to snag one.
To no avail. But throughout the rest of 2020, retailers restocked both consoles periodically. And as the year went on, re-stocks happened more and more frequently. That of course has not made them any easier to purchase.
If you’re still trying to get a hold of a PS5, GameStop is doing a restock tomorrow on January 21 through its website at 8AM PST/11PM EST. There are a couple of caveats though. This is only going to be made available to those who are subscribers of GameStop’s Powerup Rewards Pro membership.
That being said, you have time to subscribe to Powerup Rewards Pro right now since the restock isn’t till 8AM Pacific on Friday. And if you’re lucky enough to get one at that time, then you can promptly unsubscribe from the membership after you get the console and before you pay for another month. If you want to try your hand at getting one without paying, you’ll have to wait until a restock happens that doesn’t require the membership.
If you haven’t registered yet for PlayStation Direct restocks, we’d also recommend you do that now so you can be ready for the next restock that Sony does. As these require invites, but they’re only sent out to those who register. You can register for PlayStation Direct below and access the Walmart pages for both consoles below as well.
PlayStation 5 Console – GameStop
GameStop will not have PS5 stock on Friday for non-members
As mentioned above, GameStop will go live with stock of the PS5 on January 21 at 8AM PST/11AM EST. But only for Powerup Rewards Pro subscribers. Unlike some of the past restocks that happened which included non-subscribers, the restock at 8AM PST on January 21 will not. This week’s restock includes the PS5 Disc Edition as part of a bundle. Which is the other caveat.
If you want the PS5, then you’ll have to pony up more than the retail cost of just the console. As these bundles will include the console, a Red DualSense controller, a copy of Call Of Duty: Vanguard, a $50 GameStop gift card, and a 12-month membership to PlayStation Plus.
It’s not clear if this will be an online-only event or if there will be in-store stock as well. Additionally, it’s not clear if GameStop will have bundles for the Digital Edition of the PS5. So this may be on the Disc model only. Which is something to keep in mind.
As we’ve suggested in past restocks, there’s a few things you want to do. Make sure your GameStop account information for shipping and payment is up to date. Then be logged in prior to the bundles going live. Alternatively, create an account and have all that ready to go fi you don’t have an account yet. This will help minimize checkout times.
