ASUS is teasing a new ROG Strix gaming laptop that appears to be loaded with RGB. The company is set to unveil this new laptop at CES 2025, and judging from the teaser on X the laptop will have an RGB strip that runs around the entirety of the laptop’s chassis. If you’ve seen any number of Razer’s gaming peripherals over the past few years then you probably have an idea of what this looks like even before watching the teaser. The RGB is situated on the underside of the laptop. Not too unlike some of Razer’s accessories.
So it’s designed to provide a noticeable underglow that bounces off the surface the laptop is sitting on. The teaser doesn’t mention anything about specific Strix models. However, there is some speculation based on recently leaked retail listings of upcoming gaming laptops from ASUS. So there’s a chance that ASUS’s teaser is hinting at the reveal of those laptops.
ASUS to reveal a new ROG Strix laptop with RGB underglow at CES 2025
It’s currently unclear if ASUS will unveil more than one laptop with this design at the upcoming convention. However, it would make sense for it to keep the design theme across most of its ROG Strix lineup for 2025 the same. So it’s entirely possible that we’ll end up seeing at least a few new gaming laptops with this underglow feature. In ASUS’s teaser, it merely says “New Strix” followed by the January 6 date. That message is accompanied by a very brief video clip that clearly shows the outline of a gaming laptop, with the RGB strip on the underside of it.
RGB is, of course, nothing new to gaming laptops. Most brands have experimented in numerous ways when it comes to adding more. MSI for example released a laptop a few years ago with an RGB bar that covered the front edge of the laptop. Some of Alienware’s laptops had RGB backlit trackpads.
But there aren’t too many (if any) gaming laptops that have placed RGB strips on the underside of the laptop. So this might be a first. It’s a first for ASUS it seems.
New Strix laptops rumored to come with up to an RTX 5090
This shouldn’t come as any surprise as most gaming laptop brands end up with new models sporting the latest GPUs whenever they release. NVIDIA is rumored to be releasing its 50-series GPUs early next year. So it would stand to reason that companies like ASUS are preparing their latest hardware with these new graphics cards.
More than that, though, recently leaked retail listings suggest ASUS will have new ROG Strix Scar 16 and ROG Strix Scar 18 laptops with 50-series cards in them. According to Notebookcheck, the ROG Strix Scar 18 could come with an RTX 5090 GPU. Meanwhile, the ROG Strix Scar 16 could come with up to an RTX 5080 card. Additionally, VideoCardz notes that ASUS could be launching a model with an RTX 5070 Ti in it as well.
