Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 is better than its predecessor in more than one way. A bigger cover display is one of the major upgrades. At a 1.9-inch diagonal, the screen on the outside is still quite small but can do a lot. You can see notifications, access some quick toggles and widgets, check out time and weather, use Samsung Pay, and take photos and videos. But if that isn’t of any good to you, there’s a third-party app called CoverScreen OS that can make the tiny screen more usable.
This is a launcher app that will help you get more out of your Galaxy Z Flip 3’s cover display. It lets you open any app on the small screen. You also get access to more quick toggles as well as stock and third-party widgets. Additionally, you can take notification actions and even play games.
CoverScreen OS also enables you to reply to messages right from the cover screen on your Galaxy Z Flip 3. It uses your phone’s voice keyboard to convert speech to text. Likewise, you can also make a Google or YouTube search over voice input.
You will need to grant some permissions for the app to work, though. Most importantly, you must set up Bixby on your phone. It is needed to fingerprint unlock the device to launch apps on the cover screen. There may also be a few more required permissions. Unfortunately, the screen is still too small
The CoverScreen OS app does help you get more out of the cover display on your Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, the screen is still too small to make for comfortable use with most of these tasks. But if you want to give it a try, the app is available on Google Play Store (see link below). Since it is a third-party mod, we advise you to use the app with caution. If anything appears broken, uninstall the app quickly.
We hope Samsung will further increase the size of the cover display on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 to make it more useful. Perhaps the company can take inspiration from this app to add more functionalities to the exterior screen.
