Google has started rolling out Gemini Extensions for third-party apps lately. Last month, WhatsApp became the first non-Google app to gain Gemini abilities. Everyone expected more third-party apps to get Google’s Gemini Extension support and now it’s happening. Google is reportedly adding a Gemini Extension for Spotify on Android. It’ll allow Spotify users to use the play and search feature similar to YouTube Music.

Spotify Gemini Extension is rolling out on Android allowing you to search and play Spotify track

To catch you up, the extension was first spotted in the Google app’s codes back in June. With Gemini Extension, Spotify users can ask to play music found by song titles, artist names, album names, playlist names, and more.

That said, you need to do a few things before you can use the Gemini Extension for Spotify. Google, in its support page, notes that you have to first link your Spotify and Google accounts to enable the extension with Gemini Apps. Besides, you also have to enable Gemini Apps Activity which can retain your AI queries for up to 72 hours.

If you’ve already connected to other music streaming apps like YouTube Music, you’ll have to verbally say (or type) for which app you want Gemini to work. In this case, you’ll have to initially mention Spotify and Gemini will do the rest.

There are a few caveats, though

While the added support is quite handy, there are some caveats here. You can’t use the Spotify extension in Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the Gemini app on iOS. Additionally, it only works when you set Gemini’s language to English.

On top of that, Google Gemini can’t perform certain actions like creating a playlist or radio station at the moment. Moreover, you’ll be able to play a specific song you requested only if you have a Spotify Premium account.
