Last year, Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, launched its first AI chatbot called the Grok. It arrived as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. Grok has real-time access to information from X and has humor baked into its responses. So far, the chatbot, now the Grok-2 version, has only been available to X’s paid Premium+ subscribers. However, Grok-2 could be available for the free users of the social media platform.
Elon Musk could soon offer Grok-2 AI chatbot to X’s free users
According to a report by TechCrunch, the Grok-2 AI chatbot could soon be available to the free users of X. It is coming to free X users in select areas across the globe soon. Notably, multiple reports on X by researchers and users have also corroborated this information. According to these reports, there are stipulations as to who will have free access to Grok-2 and how many of its features they can use.
Furthermore, TechCrunch was able to confirm that Grok-2 is available for free to X users in New Zealand. The company is expected to offer the AI chatbot to a wider range of users in the coming weeks.
There will be certain limitations on the access to the AI chatbot for free users
Notably, a researcher on X who goes by Swak claims that there are limits on the usage of Grok-2 features for the free users. The company is offering users 10 queries per two hours with the Grok-2 model.. Notably, there are limits of 20 queries per two hours for the Grok-2 mini variant. Also, the users can only ask three photo analysis questions every day. To use the AI chatbot for free, your account must be at least seven days old. Also, it should have a mobile number linked to it.
So far, Grok’s features have only been available to X’s Premium and Premium+ users. However, by offering Grok to free users, the company could be looking to increase the user base and faster feedback cycle for its products. In addition, it will be able to better compete with other AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
