Software updates generally upgrade your smartphones by adding new features. However, there’s always a possibility that things can go south sometimes. The same seems to have happened with the owners of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones. A new report suggests that the Galaxy S23 series users are facing audio quality issues post the One UI 6.1.1 update.

Samsung acknowledges reports about degraded Dolby Atmos audio on the Galaxy S23 series

Folks over at SamMobile first noticed the ongoing issue with Galaxy S23 phones. The outlet spotted multiple posts on the Samsung community forum from Galaxy S23 users which hinted at a degraded Dolby Atmos audio post the latest One UI update. It’s worth noting that Galaxy Tab S9 series users have also complained about a similar issue following the One UI 6.1.1 update.

While users hoped that the November 2024 security update would fix the issue, nothing really happened. Not to forget, Samsung had initially dismissed these reports. However, it has finally acknowledged the change in audio quality that continues to trouble the Galaxy S23 users.

The company has now issued a statement to the community where it linked the degraded audio quality with the latest update that bumped the version of Dolby Atoms Library. A part of the statement reads, “We have heard back from our experts! The Dolby Atmos Library has been updated from version 3.10 to 3.12. This update aimed to enhance 360 Audio capabilities. However, this change has altered the sound quality in some audio modes.”

Users have to wait for a software update

It’s worth noting that Samsung has tried to lightly note the issue. It mentioned, “Some users who are accustomed to the previous version perceive the sound quality as inferior compared to earlier versions.” Besides, Samsung has also stated that it has forwarded the issue to Dolby. The good news is that Dolby plans to push an updated library to address the reported issue.

Samsung has also added that future updates will fix the issue. So, if you are also experiencing degraded audio quality on your Samsung Galaxy S23 following the latest One UI update, wait for a software update. Moreover, there’s no word from Samsung on when the software update will be available.
