Gemini is a Google product, so it’s subject to the company’s occasional UI updates. While this latest iteration of Gemini’s floating UI is still pretty new, the company could be looking to make a change. According to a new report, Google could slim down Gemini’s floating UI.

When you summon Gemini from outside the dedicated app, you’ll see the rounded box appear from the bottom of the screen. It has all of the options that you need like the typing option, camera icon, option to open Gemini Live, an option to expand the window to full screen, and the Ask about this screen/Ask about this video button. Altogether, it takes up about a quarter of the screen.

It’s a pretty sleek UI, as it lets you see everything without being too intrusive. However, there’s always room for improvement.

It looks like Google wants to put Gemini’s floating UI on a diet with this work-in-progress update. It’s important to note the “work in progress” part. The folks at Android Authority (with help from AssembleDebug) dug into Gemini’s code and they were able to enable this new UI. However, there’s no guarantee that Google will launch it. It’s only testing it out.

The new UI will be much smaller. Rather than showing a box that takes up a bit of the screen, you’d see a much smaller text bar appear from the bottom. In this bar, you’ll see the “+” button on the left that will most likely let you add different types of content like photos. On the right side, you’ll see the microphone icon along with the Gemini Live icon.

You’ll see some chips floating above the text bar with options specific to what’s on your screen. If you’re on a YouTube video, you’ll see the Ask about this video button (Ask about this screen on other apps). Also, you’ll see the Summarize button if there’s text on the screen. Additionally, if you’re on a YouTube video, you’ll see a Suggest similar videos button.

There’s no telling when Google will push this new UI if it even does. In any case, by slimming down Gemini’s UI, Google shows that it’s always looking to improve its apps’ interfaces.
